- and TV character actor; in New York City. A Milton Berle
- protege, Gilford was blacklisted during the McCarthy era but
- came back to win two Tony nominations (as the slave Hysterium
- in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and as Herr
- Schultz in Cabaret) and an Oscar nomination (as a garment
- manufacturer in Save the Tiger).
